When – Thursday, April 12th, 7 PM.
Where – CFGA Gazebo building in Glenora.
Purpose – To conduct a vote on a Special Resolution for the CFGA to become a “member-funded society.”
Topic – The new B.C. Societies Act came into effect on Nov. 28, 2016. Each pre-existing society including the CFGA has until
Nov. 28, 2018 to transition to the new act.
This “transition process” consists of requiring a society to re-file, in electronic format,
its current constitution & bylaws with the Corporate Registry. However, on transition each existing society will be asked if it
wishes to designate itself as a “member-funded society” by including a statement to that effect in its constitution.
A member-funded society is a society that is funded primarily by its members to carry on activities for the benefit of its members. Other benefits are
no requirement to make financial statements available to non-members & member determination of disposal of club assets in the event of a wind-up.
This designation has been determined by the CFGA Board of Directors as best suited to our purpose.
The Question – Upon transition to the New Societies Act Should the CFGA adopt the designation “member-funded society”?
The Resolution: Be it resolved that the Members of the Cowichan Fish and Game Association choose to become a Member Funded Society.
